How To Unlock Your Cellphone by Charles Lyal
As soon as you purchase a new phone, chances are you have already been secretly roped into using a particular cellular network. If you have an unlocked cellphone however, then this doesn’t have to be the case. The term ‘unlocked cellphone’ refers to a cellphone that isn’t tied to a single provider. Because of this, you can now easily switch providers when you need to leave the country or simply want to try out another provider and gain access to the benefits that these plans offer.
Mobile phone providers all around the world use two main cellphone technologies, namely Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA). These terms may sound confusing, but just keep in mind that as long as your cellular phone uses a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) card, then it is a GSM phone. Any GSM phone in any part of the world can be unlocked whereas phones operating under CDMA technologies cannot. CDMA phones cannot be unlocked because they lack SIM cards, which are the key component to unlocking a cellphone.
Once your phone is unlocked, there is nothing stopping you from saying goodbye to your old service provider and waving hello to a new one. All you have to do is take out your old SIM card and put in a new one from the provider you wish to use. Your new service provider should immediately jump into action as soon as you turn your cellphone back on. Changing to a new cellular network has never been easier. This is why CDMA phones cannot be unlocked.
A handful of other ways exist on how you can unlock your cellphone. Different cellular phones are unlocked in different ways, mainly due to the differences in the way they were manufactured and their original service providers. Some phones can be unlocked by inputting a series of lost t-mobile puk code that work to reset or modify the software your cellphone is currently using. This technique doesn’t work for other phones however, and for these, special cables need to be bought to modify the external hardware of the cellphone. The cables and the hardware modifications will then work together in order to reprogram the data settings of your cellphone. Your phone is now unlocked and ready to gain access to any other service provider around the globe.
Unlocking your cellphone is not always this easy however. Service providers do not want you to switch to a different network however, and therefore create their phones differently nowadays so that a user cannot easily unlock his/her cellphone. This tip can save you in the long run from being chained to a service provider you do not enjoy using.
