Kids Growing Smarter and Smarter

My son is a decade old and I have to admit he could be a enormous difficulty maker. He makes up an excuse for any sort of trouble he is getting into and he knows exactly what to do to get out of these situations. I often find myself amazed at his ingenuity in making stories and plans to get out of difficulty. I only hope he uses these abilities for good when he grows up.

I recall one day where it was announced that some periodical tests were being administered in school. Instead of studying for the test, my son instead did what he loved best, which was play cricket the entire week even though the tests were being administered the following monday. I begged him to take five in order to study, but he lie to me and asserted the tests were being pushed back another month or so. I never heard of tests being pushed back for such a substantial period of time but I gave my child the benefit of the doubt. I should have been wiser. My son hatched one of his evil stories again.

Well the following three weeks went by and I had since accepted his lie. However, as we stopped the end of the month I decided to remind him again that he should be studying as the pushed back tests were coming up again and he wanted to do well. As usual, he was occupied doing what he did best, play Nintendo games. He innocently replied that the tests were actually given a month previous and that he had already finished them. He then continued gaming as if we never even had a chat.

My child lied so well to me that it was like buying a Louis Vuitton fake purse and pretending it was real. That is how good his lies were. You never knew they were even a lie unless you looked extremely tightly. I was saddened that my child had gone to such lengths to lie to me. I asked him how he did demanding to understand what he scored and lied again announcing he did the best. I would have liked to scream at him. It felt like he was throwing a Louis Vuitton fake purse in my face, and I thought it was real. I asked to see explanation of the results . He then got up and showed me the result. Surprisingly, he was telling the truth. He got all A’s in each subject. It appears he truly is like a Louis Vuitton fake handbag in that his lies were almost true.

I was confused about whether to be happy that my son did so well on tests or nutty because of the fact that he constantly lies to me. I sat him down for a talk and made certain that he knew I appreciated his efforts on the test. I then asked him how he was able to get such scores since he never studied and was always playing. He simply told me he had the power to retain things very easily and he only has to see or hear something once and he recalls it forever. I was dazzled. My boy turned out to be a genius, but that still did not excuse him for lying. Even though was very pleased to find out my sons amazing abilities, I scolded him for lying and disciplined him in an appropriate way.
