What Does Your Tableware Say About You
Are you a considerate, house-proud host a slacker student or a tightwad? You can tell an awful lot about a person from the quality of their crockery and tableware.
I have a good old friend who has never really grasped the need or importance of housework and dishwashing. He serves his guests tea and coffee in thickly stained mugs that really should be thrown out. I don’t think he owns even one mug that isn’t chipped, cracked or stained.
He is clearly stuck in some sort of state of perpetual student-hood. He seems blind to the way that guests really appreciate clean mugs that don’t present a risk of poisoning. He is a truly lovely man but completely oblivious to the horrible state of his crockery and what that says about him.
At the other end of the scale my partner and I regularly go to dinner with friends who use only the finest quality bone china. The hostess is continually updating her kitchen and dinnerware so the local charity shops get a constant supply of good quality products to sell. But her need to constantly change and update her home accessories is not limited to her dinner service and cutlery. She is constantly redecorating which is probably why her husband is always away on business earning the money she needs for more cushions.
Then there are those friends who simply don’t like to spend any money on their crockery and tableware. They pay as little as possble for their crockery, buying everything from local charity shops. Their crockery is a mixture of non-matching items, some with patterns, some plain and a variety of colours and sizes. I suppose its not surprising that most of these people live alone and don’t entertain very often.
