App Developers Choose Google+ Over Facebook (Mobiledia)
Google+ may not have the massive membership numbers as Facebook, but it’s
still an emerging place for new apps that could potentially upend the social
network popularity contest.
App developers are more likely to try new social interactions on Google+
rather than Facebook, according to insights from analysts at IDC and
Appcelerator.
As Google+ levels off in popularity, it remains a new frontier for developers
to try new things. Developers are increasingly putting their focus on apps
that integrate Google’s variety of services and make Google+ more fun for
users than Facebook, posing a threat by pioneering new social media ground.
Google+’s wide range of services, including assets like search, YouTube and
Gmail, offer more opportunities for app developers than Facebook. The survey
of more than 2,000 app developers found 39 percent of participants said the
network effects of Google’s initiatives are more important to their social
strategies in 2012 than Facebook’s social graph initiative.
In a push to help integrate more apps, Google+ features app developer software
built into its interface that also allows developers to share information with
