Verizon Wireless not only offers the best service and coverage anywhere. It also delivers in the area of phone selection, and its best messaging phone offered now (and free) is the Rival by Motorola.
Calls were loud and clear for the most part on the Motorola Rival. Rarely did one need to use the side volume keys in order to adjust the sound.
Impressively, the speakerphone call quality was as good as the headset quality. Additionally, two people can speak simultaneously when the phone is in speakerphone mode.
For a messaging phone (or any phone), the music quality and the speakers are of the most superb quality. This phone additionally sports a three.5mm headset jack, so you can use your own high quality headphones to listen to music. The Motorola Rival also supports Bluetooth stereo, which sounds fantastic both for phone calls and listening to music.
This cell phone sports the standard Verizon Wireless 4-way navigation key, and with the partial touchscreen, maneuvering through the Rival’s features is decidedly intuitive. The partial touchscreen allows you to change applications by touching parts of the display to execute a feature. For example, when using the camera you can press the part of the screen that says “take” when you’re ready to snap a picture.
In addition to the partial touchscreen, excellent audio quality and efficient messaging feature, the Motorola Rival features a 2-megapixel camera. It can also record videos. Picture quality is more than acceptable and as the camera has a fast shutter, you will be able to catch most spur of the moment shots. Activating the camera immediately places the phone’s display in horizontal mode. The camera feature is easily controlled by the commands appearing on the side of the display. From there, you can press the screen directly and access the row of commands (like My Pics, Options, and Take). The Bluetooth functionality allows photographs to be transmitted wirelessly to your laptop or computer. The Rival’s phone book is also exceptionally easy to use. You can store 1,000 contacts, with five phone numbers, two e-mail addresses, and a picture each, which is truly exceptional for a phone of this type.
The Motorola Rival make a great first impression. The Motorola Rival just looks fun. Out of the box, it present a huge navi-key and an impressively large screen. Once you realize that the display transforms parts of itself into a touchscreen you realize the Motorola Rival is destined to be a fun phone to use. The back of the cell phone possesses a rubberized casing, so the Rival feels seriously durable in addition to the fun factor.
Slide the Rival to the right and you will enjoy a full QWERTY keypad. Those keys also appear fun to use and are quite a departure from some of the more standard keys we’ve seen on other messaging phones. One of the best design features is the amount of buttons lining the side of the cell phone: lock key, speakerphone, voice command, the MicroSD card slot, camera button, microUSB port, volume keys, and the 3.5mm headset jack are all easily accessible along the spine of the phone. Motorola has designed the Rival to be easily stowed as well.
As previously mentioned, music quality played through the Motorola Rival’s speaker is pretty good and much improved through even the simplest stereo headphones. This phone includes many standard MP3 player features, to include shuffle, repeat, and the ability to create playlists on-the-fly. The included music software will also provide suggestions for additional music you might like based on songs played on your Motorola Rival. This cell phone supports V Cast with Rhapsody, so music selection will never be a problem.
You can store approximately 200 music albums on a 8GB MicroSD card (not songs, albums!). The Rival will play back virtually any music format: Window Media Audio (WMA), Apple’s music file format (AAC), and MP3 files. The easiest way to put music on your Rival is by using the optional microUSB-to-USB synching cable to transfer music from your computer.
The Motorola Rival functions impressively in the battery performance department. The phone could last a about four days when using the Motorola Rival regularly to make calls and message. Even heavy use, meaning both voice and message use, only requires a recharge every couple of days. Despite this, this cell phone is no battery-killing device.
