The phone’s operating system gives direct access to applications such as Gmail, Google Talk, Google Search, Google Maps with Google Maps Navigation, and YouTube. Social networking is made simple through the LG Ally because it integrates all of your sites into one simple list. And speaking of e-mail, the LG Ally can operate multiple e-mail accounts, including business e-mail with Microsoft Exchange Server. The Ally comes available with Microsoft Office which makes it perfect for viewing and editing documents. Lastly, the LG Ally comes with the usual “Smart Phone” apps, such as text messaging, image messaging, visual voice mail, speech-to-text recognition, voice commands, Wi-Fi, GPS Services, and Bluetooth connections.
The LG Ally is able to run media files just as advertised, with minimal variations from most other smart phones. The phone’s music player also allows you to have playlist with shuffle and repeat. With up to 16 GB of removable storage, users can easily store many music files and have the Ally be a perfect music player. The 3.2 megapixel camera, while not providing the stellar image quality of some cameras, has a host of options to make even the quickest snapshot come out nicely. A cool feature is that it can also record video and play it back too.
As a phone, the LG Ally operates as one would expect any Android phone on the Verizon Network to operate. Call volume is well balanced and calls are crystal clear. On the other end, callers should have the same level of call quality, and with the 4G Network as the backbone, dropped calls are far less frequent than ever before.
The accessories are also where this phone shines, various LG Ally accessories available online or at any Verizon Store. The LG Ally battery is rated at an average talk life of 7 hours and a standby life of almost 21 hours. Spare batteries can surely increase the power and duration that your device can stay alive, allowing you to fully enjoy more of the features. The phone’s battery charges very quickly, which makes waiting to use it minimal. To protect the phone, the LG Ally has screen protectors and cases (both rubberized and plastic) available, and to carry the phone around, LG offers several holsters.
Perhaps one of the best features about the phone is the price. At a steady price of $99 with a two year Verizon contract, the phone is a serious contender for the same market as the Motorola Droid. While time will tell if the LG Ally can live up to that expectation, there is no doubt it’s already made a splash.
